The First rounds of the Miltek Civic Cup took place this weekend at Cadwell Park alongside the Modified Live Show.
On Sunday we had a free practice in the morning, which we used purely to bed in our new tyres and brakes, we had done quite a bit of pre season testing here at Cadwell, so i was feeling confident in the car, and so grateful to the team at Jeakins Race Prep for getting the car a new engine and getting it all sorted so i could race this weekend.
Later on Sunday afternoon, we had qualifying, this would set the grid for race 1 & 3, race 2 is a reverse grid of race 1's finishing order!. The 15 minute qualifying session saw me bag P2 in the production class for both race 1 & 3, my fastest time of 142.493 only a tenth and a half off of pole position.
Race 1 started with a cup class civic stalling ahead of us on the grid, which to avoid a collision with drivers manoeuvring round the stalled car, I had to let them in front of me, so I was straight down to P4, a couple of laps later, I was back up into P3 and had promoted myself to a podium spot, but on the 4th lap, going through turn 3, I hit a kerb, which activated a inertia switch in the car, which resulted in the engine cutting out, the same lap a big incident happened and the race was red flagged, I was recovered to the garage for the car to be fixed by race 2.
Race 2, was the reverse grid, as I had a DNF in race 1, I started dead last, I had an ok start, and I was straight back up into P4, after a battle which lasted a few laps I eventually got past on the pit straight and up into 3rd, I was then on a mission to chase down some Cup class cars until the chequered flag came out. I finished P3, my first ever podium, and interview with Jack Oliphant for the socials and you tube channels.
Race 3, started before the whole of the grid had lined up, so we had a weird rolling start, there was lots of confusion, and I immediately dropped into P3, but I had P2 in my sights firmly for the whole race, and we spent many an entry to Coppice side by side, my car had better top speed, but the nature of the Cadwell Circuit meant there was very little opportunity to overtake, I had to settle for another 3rd place, only being 2 tenths off of 2nd. But I enjoyed another trip to the podium, interview and trophy.
All in all a great weekend for us, so happy with my podiums and looking forward to what my next race brings.
