Saturday 16th April, was the start of my 2022 season, my first race in the Honda Civic Type R, my first senior motor race. I was taking part in the BRSCC Club Sport Trophy Endurance race, a 40 minute race with pit stop at my favourite track Snetterton.
Turning up Saturday morning, we were straight into qualifying, I instantly got to grips with the car, having had plenty of pre-season practice, and I love this track.
I managed to put my Jeakins Prepared Honda Civic on POLE position for class C race happening later that day. Ecstatic was a understatement.
For the start of the race, I lined up in 7th place on the overall grid but in FIRST place in the class C cars.
AS the lights went out i got a good launch and gained a position, but going down to the first hairpin i was too cautious and got bumped down a few positions, from here I was conscious of managing the brakes and tyres so they would last the whole 45 minutes. I was starting to pull away from the cars behind and makes moves towards catching the cars in front, when my engine blew, i coasted the car to a safe place, meaning the rest of the race could continue without causing a safety car for the other drivers. I watched the rest of the race with the marshals'.
Not the debut I was expecting, but mixed emotions, knowing i had the pace and skills to put it on pole, but it was just the engine which let me down. I'm looking forward to getting the car fixed and back out at Cadwell Park in the Civic Cup in 2 weeks time.
