Arriving Saturday, we were straight into qualifying, I have already raced here this year in the Club Sport Trophy (although that didn't quite go to plan!!!) and we have done pre season testing here, plus this is my favourite track, I was feeling confident!
Qualifying went well, I came in to adjust my set up as the car felt like it had quite a lot of understeer, went back out and managed to put in some respectable times and qualified in P5 overall, and 2nd in class for the 3 races.
Race 1, I got a perfect start, putting me right in the lead of my class, and then my team mate Alfie, overtook me, I had to defend hard from a FN2, who had his sights on my second position, I fended him off over a few laps, then concentrated on catching Alfie, by the time the chequered flag came out there was under 2 tenths of a second between us.
Race 2, starting in P4 overall this time, still 2nd in class due to a retirement of a cup car, I got another good start, and was side by side with Alfie for most of the first lap, he was quicker in the first half of the track and I was quicker in the second half of the track, this went on for the whole race, it made for really exciting viewing for the spectators, myself and Alfie put on a real good show of clean, fast close racing, he finished 1st in class, me, 2nd. and 3rd in the overall race.
Race 3, this was to be a 20 minute race, I got the most perfect start, and popped myself straight into P2 overall, I was demoted down to P3 overall as a quicker cup car passed me on the back straight, for the following 17 minutes, there was a 3 way battle for this P1 in class place, me, Alfie and Charlier, we were going 3 wide into Brundle, seeing who was going to be last on the brakes, and the lead kept changing hands. A really close, fast, clean race between us, until disaster in the last lap, when Charlier had a small off kicking up some stones into my path, one of which went straight through my radiator, causing my car to overheat, luckily the pace we had, we had given ourselves a good gap between us and next civic behind, so I nursed my car to the chequered flag, taking P3 in class.
A absolutely great weekend of racing, I feel my starts are much better now, and ready to go again, at my local track Brands Hatch in June, in the Civic Cup
