Snetterton weekend report
The hardest weekend so far in the JSCC for me started positively on the Friday test sessions where the car felt good and I was able to go out on my own for the first session. I then had incredible tuition from Howard (the legend) Hunt in the other session as well.
this is where things got a bit iffy...... About 20 mins before qualifying session is due to begin, my bearings in the near side front wheel needed to be changed, so all the team jumped in to get it done, so I could go out for the qualifying session, unfortunately this had a negative effect on the car which was evident in the opening lap of qualifying so I pulled the car into the pits and the problem was rectified. Time was short as we only get the 15 minutes session, and Snetterton is a long track, 3 miles, so each lap is 2+ minutes, however, I was able to just about get 4 laps in and these landed me grid positions of 10 and 11 for the two races.
Race 1, I had an okay start but going into Brundle I went to go to 3rd and the gear leaver had popped up so had to pull off and bash the leaver back into gear, this was a recurring problem through out the race, when the gear lever was in place i was gaining ground and picking people off, moving up the grid, but as it popped back out, i was not only losing places, but was temporarily pulling off track to not cause any incidents by being in the live area seriously slow, however, somehow I was able to scape a couple of points finishing p19.
Race 2, I had a much better start and was into the top ten for the first couple of laps and having a close battle with another driver, the JSCC is such a competitive field of victory thirsty drivers the competition is fierce, it is a non contact sport but little taps and bumps are a regular thing, as lets face it, we are all still learning our race craft and the limits to our cars and our talents, in the 3rd lap, whilst in 9th position, I was hit from behind at the 8th corner, which put me in a full spin, off the track, luckily as Snetterton is such a vast track with huge run off areas, I didn't plough into any wall or gravel, I gathered myself back up, and got back on track, shortly after this the race was red flagged to a huge incident between 2 cars on the 2nd corner, so I was classified in finishing in P16.
